For generations, U.S. citizens have used insurance products to reduce taxes, in some circumstances, through tax-free investment growth, tax-free policy loans and income tax-free death benefits. In some states, insurance policies are not affected by claims of creditors. In addition, the proceeds of life insurance policies flow to the estate of the insured on a stepped-up basis making the proceeds tax-free.

Citadel products are designed to allow policies to be funded with liquid assets as well as non-liquid assets such as private stock or the interest in limited partnerships. In addition, by electing to be taxed as a U.S. domestic company for income tax purposes under IRC 953(d), Citadel has set the stage for investors to make premium payments with real property and intellectual property. Unlike other foreign insurance companies who do not elect to pay U.S. income taxes, income from real property, interest and royalties are not subject to withholding taxes. Therefore, the earnings generated from real estate, interest and royalties owned by Citadel policies accumulate tax deferred inside the policy without tax withholdings under the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA).

Unlike most domestic insurance companies, Citadel allows the policy owner to invest in private and public stocks, private and public funds virtually anywhere in the world. This feature gives tremendous flexibility through a wide range of investment options.

While many international insurance companies are willing to offer their products to U.S. taxpayers, not all are willing to comply with the Internal Revenue Code and U.S. Treasury requirements, putting the U.S. taxpayer at risk.  For that reason, Citadel was formed to offer U.S. compliant insurance structures to those individuals in need of asset protection and tax reduction.
